A gritty and smart action adventure set in the Netherlands, Etrain is the story of an average guy, with an above-average intellect, who flees from his upwardly mobile life in Honolulu, Hawaii only to discover he’s gotten in way over his head. In the forget-your-troubles capital of Europe 28 year-old Brandon Grossman frees himself from the confines his sterile biochemist lifestyle after the sudden death of his mother spawns a longing for change. Brandon’s girlfriend, Cassie Ellis, is as sweet and nurturing as they come, but Brandon is so unhinged by his mother’s death that he only feels stifled by things that comforted him in the past. When James, a 20-something hipster and Brandon’s longtime friend, remerges to pay his respects he convinces Brandon to join him in Amsterdam for a mini-vacation. Brandon accepts despite Cassie’s obvious uneasiness towards James and the seamy crowd he hangs with.

James and his friends Vanessa, Caroline, Mia, and Sasha introduce Brandon to the many splendors of Amsterdam. Brandon soon discovers that his tour guides are embroiled in a serious scheme to smuggle ecstasy from Holland to the U.S. Everything finally clicks; the trips to and from Amsterdam, the strange errands to an impressive house in the Diamond Head, and the elegantly dressed man who was watching him from the deck. Roman, equipped with a razor sharp intellect and a penchant for fine design, is the mastermind behind the distribution system. He recruits underworld savvy prostitutes, or anyone who has hit the skids in Amsterdam, to act as mules in his smuggling operation.

James takes Brandon to Excalibur, a hash bar where they meet a thick Moroccan named Harold who packages MDMA inside chocolate truffles in such a way that the drug cannot be detected by dogs or by x-ray. James plans on enticing Brandon to take part in their operation. He takes advantage of Brandon’s obvious attraction for Sasha, a sultry Czech woman who smacks of sexy experience. Sasha is an expert on handling business relations with the big-shots of the operation, Roman in particular.

Brandon returns to Tarzana to begin his job as a pharmaceutical chemist at Cormac Labs, only his desire to contribute his cutting-edge ideas for the sake of the big money corporations no longer appeals to him. In Amsterdam he felt a kind of dangerous exhilaration he had never felt before. Somewhere underneath his craving lies guilty lust for Sasha.

In Amsterdam, Brandon felt an instant connection with Sasha and was mesmerized by her mysterious sophistication. He bails from his new job, his old life, and decides that he will make a run – just this once – in order to make enough money to save his mother’s house and buy some time before figuring out where to go next in his life.

Brandon succumbs to a world unlike anything he’s used to. Walking over dark, glistening canals and rain-slick cobblestone streets Brandon ponders his new assignment.

He returns to California to create a local MDMA lab in the basement of his mother’s house. Brandon is consumed by his new science project and his relationship with Cassie is crumbling.

Cassie eventually returns to check in on Brandon. She enters an empty house and can’t figure out why the place is in disarray. She heads towards a light coming from the basement and is even more perplexed when she realizes that the basement has been turned into a lab. Fumbling past beakers and bowls of strange powder she hurries to leave when she loses her footing and falls to the ground knocking over a bowl of yellow powder. The cloud of MDMA engulfs her. James jumps out of bed, gun in hand, and finds Cassie on the floor coughing. Brandon races home and has it out with James who isn’t convinced that their only option is taking Cassie to the hospital. The doctors are able to stabilize Cassie, but Brandon’s conscious is another story.

Brandon never imagined the how much he could lose by making one wrong choice. Somehow, information was leaked to the authorities and Roman is feeling the pressure. Caroline mysteriously disappears and Vanessa is interrogated and accosted by Roman. Brandon wants out. He’s about to call the police when James and Sasha try to stop him. Once they realize that Brandon has made up his mind James takes out a get out of jail free card he had been holding on to. James tells Brandon how he met a DEA agent who offered him immunity in exchange for Roman’s capture. Sasha’s mind races – she did not anticipate this sudden turn of events. Brandon contacts Agent Caplett, a skuzzy man in a tacky shirt and sunglasses, who asks Brandon to wear a wire during his next run in exchange for immunity.

On this, Brandon’s last run, he discovers that he has been set up by James. Roman rips the wire from Brandon’s chest and Agent Caplett enters the room with a smirk on his face. Before Roman tightens the noose that is tied around Brandon’s head he turns his attention to James who is reeling in shame. Roman explains to James that if he would betray his best friend, who wouldn’t he betray? Roman orders one of his Russian henchmen to empty a round in James’ chest. James takes his last breath when out of nowhere glass shatters and gun fire sprays into the room. A swat team storms into the house. Someone tipped off the DEA and Brandon will live another day.

Months later, on a beautiful, sunny afternoon in Vondel Park Brandon finally reunites with the woman who saved his life that day. Sasha, an agent for Interpol, tries to apologize to Brandon for how far she had to let things go. Her dedication led to the destruction of the entire ring, including arrests in Moscow and Tel Aviv, but today Brandon has only two concerns; one, his new counseling position at a local drug rehab clinic and two, holding on to the woman he always wanted.
